What is a domain, and does your store need its own?
A domain is your store's address on the internet. Do you need your own — and when.
A domain is your store's address on the internet — what a buyer types in a browser, or clicks a link to, to reach your site, for example yourshop.sellit.ge or yourshop.ge.
You don't need to buy your own domain to start — on Sellit every store gets a free address in the form name.sellit.ge, where name is your shop's name. That lets you start selling right away, with no separate domain purchase or connection needed.
Later, as your brand grows, you can connect your own .ge or other domain — the store, products, and orders stay unchanged; only the address changes.
Buying and connecting your own .ge domain adds a cost, but on Sellit the technical side — the SSL certificate, connecting it to the server — is set up automatically; no separate configuration is needed.
When it's worth getting your own domain
A name.sellit.ge address is entirely enough while your brand is being proven out and you're taking your first orders. Moving to your own .ge domain makes sense once the brand is already recognized and you want a simpler, fully-yours address — or when you want the brand name to show up consistently across other platforms too.
For search engines, a sellit.ge subdomain (name.sellit.ge) and your own domain (name.ge) are indexed the same way — Google sees no problem with a subdomain. The difference is mostly branding and buyer perception, not search ranking. If you run several stores or want to enter different markets, separate domains add clarity — each brand shows up under its own address, with nothing mixed up.
For example, if a store is named "Marani", its starting address would be marani.sellit.ge; later you could move to marani.ge without losing any products or orders.
A domain of your own also lets you create a branded email address (info@marani.ge instead of a generic free-mail address), which makes communicating with buyers feel more professional.
A domain of your own makes a brand feel more serious and memorable, especially once it shows up on business cards, packaging, and ads too.
